In this first part, let’s first consider the why.
In part two we will consider the how.
Invest in the process - Not the Outcome, wise words echoing to us from the past.
Invest in the Process.
Because It is Through the Process That We Experience Our Lives. The Process is the Experience.
One that Changes How We Experience our Lives
Do you think this is something you can learn to teach? Do you think you can help others learn how to trust in the process and let go of the outcome. Do you have the skills to guide, mentor, facilitate that process?
When we focus on the outcome, we skew the process without realizing it. This is what happens when we focus on where we think we want to go, what we think we want to achieve or what we want to teach. When we focus on the outcome our focus on the outcome means it is the outcome that we are making important.
And we’ve missed an incredible opportunity when we do this. Because it is the process that means everything. Because it is the process that makes a statement to the horse, to ourselves and most of all to the universe.
If you are a teacher, your first thoughts might be, well, how does the process influence my rider or client not realizing that you, too, are a part of this. One, because you were always a part of the process just as much as anyone you are trying to help. Two, because your focus on outcome vs process influences client, horse, outcome and yourself!
