The Kjrsos Experience ~ Is knowing a half-halt redirects energy up, not back.
Article Summary
This article deconstructs one of the most misunderstood concepts in riding: the half-halt. It argues that the biggest problem is the name itself, which incorrectly implies a 'halting' action. Discover why a true half-halt is not about taking back or shortening, but about rebalancing and redirecting the horse's energy upwards into a third dimension.
Learn to flip the half-halt upside down, transforming it from a restrictive signal into a request for more power and engagement from the hindquarters. This piece provides a critical shift in perception that will change how you think about and apply this foundational movement.

Turning Half-Halt into a True Rein Aid
One Step at a Time
Half-Halt Worse Name Ever
There is a huge problem with the naming of this rein effect.
But first, what we don't want.
The half-halt should...
Not contain, not limit, not hold, not stop. Not halt.
Absolutely nothing to do with halting at all.
See, I told you there was a problem with the name!
Do you realize that people don't even think to call a half-halt a rein aid any more than they would call a halt a rein aid? We know this is true because If you noticed, it is never listed along with the other rein aids. Leading, direct, indirect and so on, but no half-halt listed with the rest.
Shouldn't it be? Shouldn't it be listed as a rein aid?
Especially since this aid was never meant to halt at all. Not by a half, not even by a little bit.
See, I told you there was a problem with the name!
So how much more confusing can this get?
Well, a lot.
