There is no wrong lead to the horse.  And in training, sometimes the wrong lead is the right lead.

Allow your horse to learn from the beginning to canter on both leads in both directions to have a truly handy and athletic horse.  

Straightness is full range of motion and mobility on both sides of the body, not a straight jacket to lock our horses into.

Your First Introduction is the Sales Ad.

This horse is ready to get down in the dirt and work hard or trail ride anywhere you like, the ad says.

Super light in the mouth and a blast to ride! Stands tied all day and has no buddy sour issues, just a perfect all-around pony for a confident rider.  Started over smaller jumps and absolutely loved it.

And you go, 'This is the horse I need!'

But even though you checked him over carefully, tried him out and had that all-important vet check, this isn't the horse that you are sitting on, as he spooks one more time while you are out on the trail. 

'What the heck is going on?' you wonder.

Horses and wolves use dominance and say that food is mine, not yours. 

They use dominance so that they can be the one to breed.

The wolf doesn't use dominance to tell another wolf, sit, lie down and now shake a paw.

I wasn't sure we would be sharing a free article this week. My mother died the day after the last newsletter came out last week.  And I didn't think I could manage it to be honest.  But the gods saw to it that I came across an article I wrote years ago when my father died.  And the lesson on life that I learned through the experience.  The seed I think of how Kjrsos came into being. I hope you find something in this week's article that will make a difference for you in your life.

When we want to create change, when we want to make a difference, when we protest, we need to remember that “What you attend to, you become. Your essence is pliable, and ultimately, you become that which you most deeply focus your attention upon. You reap what you sow, so choose your actions carefully. If you constantly engage in battles, you become embattled yourself. If you constantly give love, you become love itself.”

There is a difference in what you create, by how you try to effect change.

If all our energy is in the search for information, we have missed the point, and we don't realize that progress is going to miss us entirely.

"Because you have 'to feel' another, 'become' another for connection to happen."

And the process of connection is not something that you can do alone and not something you can find in a science paper. 

When all you know is how to search for information, you've lost your way, and you are now stuck in your own creation. A creation that focuses on information and forgets the rest. A creation that forgot what was important and what possibility exists when you come together with another.

Obsessive information-seeking risks tunnel vision, neglecting other aspects of understanding. Losing sight of your original purpose when you end up getting lost in the details.

Information plays a vital role in understanding the world, but it's important to recognize its limitations.

Once riders are handling the corners well and the horses are happy and not restricted because the riders have learned to follow the pattern of the walk, in their hands and in their bodies, as well as allow the outside neck to lengthen going through the corner, I ask my riders to try something different. And I ask them to trust me that this is going to work.

The first question that you need to ask your next instructor.

So hard to know who to follow.  Hard to know which instructor is the best for your horse. Especially for someone who is a beginner, but often true for many of us no matter how many years we have been at this. We lose confidence in our ability to pick who we should trust when we've made mistakes in the past that caused just more problems for our horses.  So much so, that many of us just become our own instructors. Reading and studying everything we can find while trying to figure out how to best help our horses.  But with this one question, you might just have a way to find someone that will be everything that you have ever wanted. Secure in knowing that they know what they are doing.
