One Standard of Training
Every argument about how to train a horse has one thing in common. Not one of them can be settled. And the reason has nothing to do with the methods.
Article Summary
You have had this argument. Maybe you have had it for years — with a trainer, at a clinic, across a fence line, at two in the morning in your own head. Someone tells you that is simply how it is done in their discipline, and you have no answer, because they are right that it is how it is done. So it goes unsettled, and the horse pays for whatever gets decided. What if these arguments never end because everyone is measuring against the wrong thing? There is something that has to be agreed on before any of them can be answered. Or perhaps you have never once questioned why you train the way you train — and that is worth knowing too.
