After decades of experience teaching and training and some incredible yet mystifying experiences with the horses shared in the book "So That We Can See" the one overwhelming lesson it turns out, is that it is us that need to change, not them.

What you bring into your heart, what you bring into your awareness will determine everything.  How he/she will look at and respond to you, what they do next all depends on you.  More than what you do, but what you are willing to be.

How much you are ready to change from who you are right now. Are you willing to become what your horse needs you to be?

Which is why we can say without a shadow of a doubt that few people realize the true value of a horse. They are worth their weight in gold.

It matters not whether you ride or not.  It doesn't even matter if all you do is just spend time in their presence.  The changes they can engender and help in us is astonishing.

The responsibility is on us.  What happens next determined by our willingness to be open to new possibilities.

The power of your relationship, the healing you can bring to the horse, to yourself, to others - everything contingent on what you do next.

And it starts with the lesson of the quiet.
